Booking Your First Appointment

This guide walks you through creating your first appointment in MyDentalPractice, from selecting a patient to sending the confirmation.

Prerequisites

Before booking an appointment, ensure you have:

  • At least one patient record in the system
  • Business hours configured in Settings
  • At least one treatment category set up
  • Step-by-Step Booking

    1. Open the Appointment Scheduler

Click Appointments in the sidebar to open the calendar view. You will see your weekly schedule with available time slots highlighted in green.

    2. Select a Time Slot

Click on an available time slot in the calendar. A booking form will appear on the right side of the screen.

Alternatively, click the + New Appointment button in the top right corner to open the booking form directly.

    3. Select the Patient

Start typing the patient name in the Patient field. The system will show matching results as you type. Select the correct patient from the dropdown.

If the patient is new, click + Add New Patient to create their record inline without leaving the booking form.

    4. Choose the Treatment

Select the treatment type from the Treatment dropdown. The system will automatically:

  • Set the appointment duration based on the treatment default
  • Pre-fill the estimated cost
  • Block the appropriate amount of time on the calendar
  • 5. Add Notes (Optional)

Use the Notes field to add any relevant information:

  • Special patient requests
  • Pre-treatment instructions
  • Internal notes for the dentist
  • 6. Select the Dentist

If your clinic has multiple dentists, select the appropriate provider from the Dentist dropdown. The calendar will update to show only that dentist's availability.

    7. Confirm the Booking

Review the appointment details and click Book Appointment. The system will:

  • Add the appointment to the calendar
  • Send an SMS confirmation to the patient (if SMS is enabled)
  • Send an email confirmation (if the patient has an email on file)
  • Update the patient's appointment history
  • After Booking

You can view and manage the appointment by:

  • Clicking on it in the calendar view
  • Searching for it in Appointments → All Appointments
  • Viewing it on the patient's profile under Appointments tab
