With hundreds or thousands of patient records, finding the right one quickly is essential. MyDentalPractice provides multiple ways to search and filter your patient database.

The search bar at the top of every page is the fastest way to find a patient:

  • Click the search bar or press Ctrl + K (Windows) or Cmd + K (Mac)
  • Start typing the patient's name, phone number, or Patient ID
  • Results appear instantly as you type
  • Click a result to open that patient's profile
  • The global search matches against:

  • First name and last name
  • Phone number (primary and secondary)
  • Email address
  • Patient ID (e.g., SMILE-LG-2026-00142)
  • Patient List Filters

From Patients → All Patients, use the filter panel to narrow results:

    Quick Filters

  • New This Month — Patients registered in the current month
  • Upcoming Appointments — Patients with future bookings
  • Overdue for Visit — Patients who have not visited in over 6 months

Click Advanced Filters to combine multiple criteria:

  • Age Range — Filter by minimum and maximum age

  • Insurance Status — Insured, Uninsured, or All
  • Last Visit Date — Before or after a specific date
  • Treatment History — Patients who have received a specific treatment

  • Give it a name (e.g., "Overdue Patients with Balance")
  • Access saved searches from the Saved dropdown
  • Tips for Efficient Searching

  • Partial matches work — Typing "Oka" will match "Okafor", "Okali", etc.
